  1. People's Perception About Suffering at the End of Life Sofica Bistriceanu, MD, Ph-D student

  2. Background: people must die in dignity. The end of life could be in suffering for a long time, affecting both patient and his/ her family. These elements modify the quality of life, finaly bad memories remaining over time.

  3. Aim: to reveal people's perception about the end of life in suffering, how could they manage it.

  4. Material/ Methods. A qualitative study was performed in author's office, this spring. The author used her Questionnaire ( Open ended Questions ) combined with Interview for 97 visitors who agreed to colaborate in this study; in this way their perceptions about these elements which could compose the end of lifewere explored. 95%CI was constructed for relevant proportions and their differences.

  5. Results: -in their opinion the end of life in suffering could be solved by sustainable emotional support offered by family (51% ) as a form of respect for himself / herself; when necessary, a payment for these servicies at home to other qualified people is required (37,11% ); asylum (10,30%) or private specialised units ( 1,03 %) may be a solution. . Some of them ( 2,06% ) would prefer euthanasia.

  6. 36,08% have Bachelor's degree. • mean age in this group: • women: 53,11; men:54,38. • 56,70% are women. • 97,93% are married, • average age of marital status: 29,13 years.

  7. Conclusion: The end of life in suffering usually affects family. If it is for long time, the annoyance of their members involved in care could be notified; some of them would prefer to pay other persons/ institutions for these services. Euthanasia is the expresion of mental activity's disaster.

  8. Love, standard services at home at the end of life in suffering are preferable Anticipatory forms of payment made by yourself / your family for these possible medical conditions, must be taken into account.

  9. New institutions could solve these problems which affects us, in order to maintain love over time, mental health and last but not least, to go away in peace.
