  1. Emmanuel Gygi CSE 3 Fluency with Information Technology Computational Thinking Overview Making Information Available to the World with HTML and Web Pages Visual Programming with Alice This class is an introduction to the world of computers and programming languages. It allows students to develop applicable skills for the real world in regards to fluency in technology. Alice is a simple animation program that introduced us to the world of programming by explaining parameters, loops, methods, and if/else statements. Through HTML, we were able to create simple items, such as this calendar. HTML is a great tool when first starting with programming because it is easy to learn and manipulate. Dynamic Web Programming with JavaScript Desktop Publishing with MS Word Data Analysis and Visualization with MS Excel JavaScript is a useful programming language mainly used for web browsers. Through the use of HTML, variables, and functions, one can create complicated applications, such as this Black Jack game or this mock online shopping site. JavaScript is the first complex programming language we used. Masterful MS Word Editing Presentation of Information with MS PowerPoint A long, but helpful lab, with MS Excel, we were able to calculate the total income, taxes, and total expenditures that a single student will use/give back in one year while at UCSD. Excel is a great program for organizing information and creating useful charts to easily visualize that information. We calculated the changing prices of a number of big name companies and compared them in PowerPoint. We also compared each companies’ profits and losses.
