On February 25, 2009, join us for the ePortfolio Day of Dialogue focused on emerging practices of ePortfolios in educational contexts. Led by Ruth Cox and Kathleen Willbanks, the event aims to provide insights into the definitions, applications, and benefits of ePortfolios. Engage in interactive sessions that delve into the student-centered approach to the portfolio process, showcasing its roles in assessment, professional development, and accreditation. What are ePortfolios? • National Learning Infrastructure Initiative definition: • A collection of authentic and diverse evidence, • Drawn from a larger archive representing what a person or organization has learned over time, • On which the person or organization has reflected, and • Designed for presentation to one or more audiences for a particular rhetorical purpose. (2003)
Portfolios are not new… For years… • Universities have used paper-based portfolios to assess student work • Share work for accreditation/program review • As a valuable tool for career connections 12
What’s changed is that… • In an ePortfolio we can collect, select, build and publish our work using electronic technology as the container.

We Recommend…Step 1: Assessing Need Why use ePortfolios? What is the primary purpose of the student portfolio? Will it be used for: Assessment Showcasing Reflection Learning What does the portfolio need to show/demonstrate? What kinds of artifacts/evidence need to be in the portfolio?
Build Buy-In • STEP 2: Plan the roll-out & have a clear communication plan; • STEP 3: Get project manager/leader in place & team of experts (from Assessment, Academic Technology, Faculty and Administration); • Introduce students to the concept as early as possible.
