  1. CBAClassroom Based Assessment Required for all Social Studies students A way to demonstrate basic skills of research and writing

  2. 1st CBA What knowledge and skills does a citizen need to participate in our political system? What does an average person NEED to fulfill their role in our democracy? This is your understanding from our work 1st quarter.

  3. HOW TO WRITE A SIMPLE RESEARCH PAPER All papers must have: Introduction • Attention grabber • Setting (time and place) • Question • Importance of question • Answer (thesis)A.B.C.

  4. SAMPLE INTRODUCTIONWhy is it important to vote? QUESTION In the August 2013 primary election in Clark County only 19.56% of eligible voters bothered to participate. This means that less than 1 in 5 voters made the decisions that effected the rest of the county. With so little interest in voting it is reasonable to ask the question “why is it important to vote?” With the government currently shut down, partisan differences seemingly on the rise, and a number of serious issues facing citizens here in Washington, as well as all over the country, this question is a very important one to ask. It is important to vote because our democracy depends on it, it is a personal responsibility, and many people have suffered and fought through American history to secure this right for all. B. A. It is important to vote because our democracy depends on it, it is a personal responsibility, and many people have suffered and fought through American history to secure this right for all. One way that is important is……[A]…… . Our government receives its power through popular sovereignty. This means that….. [A quote from the Constitution, or a famous politician that illustrates this point. …………….End the paragraph with a linking sentence to the next point.]

It is a personal responsibility. Citizens must be involved or they are not truly living in a democracy. If only a small number participate then a minority is able to make decisions that only benefit them. [Example of unfair laws being passed in the U.S.]. Explain how this illustrates your point. End with a linking sentence.
