  2. Defining the Mole Atoms are small so there are a lot of them present in samples we use on our large scale. The number of atoms found in exactly 12 grams of pure carbon-12 has been defined as the number of particles in 1 mole of any substance. 6.02 x 1023 particles / 1 mol

  3. Avogadro’s Number Avogadro’s number can be used to determine the number of moles that would represent a specific number of particles. Arrange this relationship as a conversion factor and use dimensional analysis to solve.

  4. Representing Substances Proper notation shows the amount, unit, then substance for the sample. Abbreviations are useful but order is what matters the most! 3.50grams of water 3.50g H2O

  10. Finding Molar Mass To determine the molecular weight of an atom, we can use the average atomic mass shown on the periodic table. For compounds, add all the masses.
