  1. Signal Processing and Fluorescence GLEON 10

  2. Participants • Eleanor Jennings • Don Pierson • Liz Ryder • Chris McBride • Patricia Garcia • Luke Winslow • Kevin Rose • Fred Jopp

  3. Scientific Questions • What are the scales of variability in chlorophyll fluorescence? (e.g. diel, population wax/wane, seasonal, other scales?) • How do these scales differ across lakes? AKA – frequency of variation across GLEON sites. • Can we correlate variation in physical parameters with variation in biological parameters?

  4. Methods and Tasks • Identified chlorophyll fluorescence as a useful optical indicator of lake biology • Develop document outlying issued related to instrumentation measurement protocols and data processing (Chris and Kevin) • Identified data sets of chlorophyll flurosence data (Liz) • Formally request data • Fluorescence • Physical data (water temp air temp wind solar radiation etc) • QA/QC • Develop data archive • Indentified wavelet analysis as a useful method to identify signals and frequencies of variation. • Initial analysis (Fred) • Group analysis Workshop?

  5. Additional Questions Can we develop a predictive model to correct for non-photochemical quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence? (Kevin Rose) Can we calibrate CDOM sensors? Is there a relationship between EEM quantified functional groups with CDOM fluorescence?

  6. How to Foster Continued Collaboration • Signal Processing Web Site http://sites.google.com/site/spaecoproject/ • Group Workshop • Cross site temperature quenching Comparison
