  1. Prepare for Opposition • Matt 22:37-40 • "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' • Matt 28:19-20 • 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

  2. Opposition Confirms the Open Door • 1 Cor 16:5-9 • 5 After I go through Macedonia, I will come to you-for I will be going through Macedonia. 6 Perhaps I will stay with you awhile, or even spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go. 7 I do not want to see you now and make only a passing visit; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. 8 But I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost, 9 because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.

  3. But Where does Opposition Come From? • Opposition Comes from 3 Sources • 1. Satan • 1 Peter 5:8-10 • Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world • 2. People • 2 Tim 4:14-15 • Alexander the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done. 15 You too should be on your guard against him, because he strongly opposed our message.

  4. But the Greatest Opponent is: • Ourselves: Gal 5:16-18 • I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. • 2 Cor 10:3-6 • For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

  5. 7 Benefits of Opposition • Opposition develops Resilience • Opposition develops Maturity • Opposition demands Higher Performance • Opposition develops Opportunity • Opposition develops Innovation • Opposition brings the Unexpected • Opposition Motivates

  6. How do we face opposition? • James 1:2-7 • My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
