(FEPET) announced that the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) has selected FEPET's proposal entitled "Fully Integrated Millimeter RF Array Using a Carbon Nanotube Cathode" for funding under a Small Business Innovation Research (SIBR) Phase I grant. This was one of 167 proposals selected by BMDO out of 463 submitted. The initial Phase I funding is approximately $50,000. Assuming that Phase I is successfully completed, FEPET will have the opportunity to continue to Phase II implementation of the program, which will provide the opportunity for significant additional funding. The attractive features of amorphous diamond include very high hardness, corrosion resistance, optical transparency, high thermal conductivity, a low coefficient of friction and the ability to produce very homogeneous, pinhole-free films. This type of coating could be used on numerous types of surfaces and equipments in order to increase longevity and protect against minor damages. • The caoting can also be Points of Contact: -NASA: Jane Fox- (281)-483-4815 -SI Diamond: (512)-339-5020 1991 SBIR Phase 2; NAS9-18913; SS # 09-49 Johnson Space Center July 11, 2001 Success Story 09-52
