The USPS ZIP 4 Database Is More Than A Logistical Necessity

A standard ZIP code is five digits long. But there is an extended version. It is called a ZIP 4 code. Due to an increase in population or to improve postal operations, the US Postal Service will add a new ZIP Code or change ZIP Code boundaries. It includes four additional digits after a hyphen from the standard ZIP code.
