  5. It is any medium sized group of people that has the potential to network together in a positive way

  6. With generic, locality-based community the fundamental one

  7. Community Access Broadcasting is all about localities and the people in them

  8. Community wellbeing requires community control

  9. With people taking participatoryaction on their own priorities Owairaka Garden Project

  10. It’s about… COMMUNICATION CAPACITY CONNECTEDNESS CONTROL CLOUT

  11. This kind of community development is the magic bullet to save a world in deep trouble.

  12. So how do we do it? And where does Community Broadcasting fit in?

  13. PEOPLE System planning model ‘PEOPLE’ = Planning and Evaluation of People-Led Endeavours

  14. Needs/wishes assessment How would you like to use us? How can we help? Give us a slot to publicise our project Help us to set up a discussion forum Give us free ice creams This is the core of the PEOPLE process

  15. There are already a number of terrific projects around that work in this community-driven way Ka Mau Te Wero Project, Glenn Innes, Auckland But do any use Community Broadcasting to facilitate their work?

  16. What is the role of Community Broadcasting here? It could be incredibly helpful.

  17. It could help with… Communicating-enabling networking and interacting Connecting- facilitating interaction, discussion, participation Sense of control- assisting people do own stuff & find resources Capacity-building- aiding learning and skill-building Clout - providing voice and platform

  18. What needs to be done to accomplish this: • Go out to discover what people want from you • Adopt a supportive and facilitating role • Be innovative and proactive • Think of the wellbeing of the whole community • Think community development

  19. The result? Huge satisfaction for the community, and for you. Yay! We can do it!!!!
