C/PED 637 Project Process Outline The process of this class from Project Proposal through a Final grade is outlined in this power point.
Outline • Foundation of the Research Project • Research Question • Research Design • IRB submission • Implementation • Results and Analysis • Sharing – paper and presentation • Grade
Project Foundation • The first step to an action research project is the foundation of the research question: • What are your curious about, passion about? • What do you want more information on? • What part of your counseling/psychology practice do you want to improve?
Foundation Con’t • The foundation material can come from your work in ILD625…. It doesn’t have to. • We establish the foundation of this project and move to the question
Research Question • Your research question comes out of the foundation • Your research question is the pinnacle of this project. • A strong research question will allow for a strong “meaningful” research project.
Research Design • You will work with your instructor on a feasible research design. • You will identify and design your data collection instruments.
IRB • With appropriate training and approval from your C/PED 637 instructor you will apply for approval by the National University IRB.
Project Implementation • Once you get the Project Foundation and proposal successfully completed and approved by the instructor AND receives approval of the IRB Application from National University’s IRB Committee, then your are allowed to implement your action project.
Time frame of project and grades • The action research study can be completed in a 2-12 month period. • Since the action research project often lasts longer than the course’s two months, a student will receive an academic grade ‘IP’ indicating a ‘work In Progress’ if the student has made considerable progress on the project after 2 months. • “considerable progress” is generally defined by, approved submission of project to the IRB by the end of the 2 month course; however it is officially determined by the professor.
Grades • The ‘IP’ grade will be converted to the approved letter grade after the successful completion of the action research project, paper reports, and presentation. • After one year, if a Satisfactory grade is not posted the grade will default to a Unsatisfactory (U) grade automatically.
