Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: 2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem.

He calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the face of the earth. The LORD is His name. READ: HEBREWS 1:10 10 You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.

For the spirit would fail before Me And the souls which I have made.

WHO SHALL DRINK OF IT? WHY? READ: PSALMS 75:8 8 In the hand of the LORD there is a cup And the wine is red. It is fully mixed and He pours it out. Surely its dregs shall all the wicked of the earth Drain and drink down. READ: PSALMS 60:3 3 You have shown Your people hard things. You have made us drink the wine of confusion.

  10. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:1-2 WHO SHALL DRINK OF THIS CUP? WHY? READ: ISAIAH 51:17 17 Awake, awake! Stand up, O Jerusalem, You who have drunk at the hand of the LORDThe cup of His fury. You have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling And drained it out. READ: ISAIAH 51:21-23 21 Please hear this, you afflictedand drunkbut not with wine. 22 Thus says your Lord, The LORD and your God, Who pleads the cause of His people: See, I have taken out of your hand The cup of trembling, The dregs of the cup of My fury. You shall no longer drink it. 23 But I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you, Who have said to you, Lie down, that we may walk over you. And you have laid your body like the ground And as the street, for those who walk over.

READ: JEREMIAH 13:13 13 Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land - even the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem - with drunkenness! READ: JEREMIAH 25:15-17 15 Thus says the LORD God of Israel to me: Take this wine cup of fury from My hand and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. 16 They will drink and stagger and go madBecause of the sword that I will send among them. 17 I took the cup from the LORD‘S hand and made all the nations drink, to whom the LORD had sent me.

  12. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:1-2 WHO SHALL DRINK OF THIS CUP? WHY? READ: JEREMIAH 49:12 12 Thus says the LORD: Behold, those whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunk. And are you the one who will altogether go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink of it. READ: JEREMIAH 51:7 7 Babylon was a golden cup in the LORD‘S hand, That made all the earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; Therefore the nations are deranged.

READ: EZEKIEL 23:30-33 31 You have walked in the way of your sister; therefore I will put her cup in your hand. 32 Thus says the Lord GOD: You shall drink of your sister's cup, The deep and wide one; You shall be laughed to scorn And held in derision; It contains much. 33 You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, The cup of horror and desolation, The cup of your sister Samaria.

All who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. 4 In that day, says the LORD, I will strike every horse with confusion and its rider with madness. I will open My eyes on the house of Judah. And I will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.

I will open My eyes on the house of Judah. And I will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. WHAT IS THIS HEAVY STONE? WHAT WILL BECOME OF IT? WHAT WILL THIS STONE DO? WHAT WILL THE LORD DO IN THAT DAY? WHAT DO THESE HORSES REPRESENT? WHY WILL THE LORD OPEN HIS EYES ON JUDAH?

QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:3-4 3 In that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples: All who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. WHAT IS THIS VERY HEAVY STONE? WHAT DID DANIEL PROPHESY? READ: DANIEL 2:34-35 34 You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the goldwere crushed together and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors. The wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

WHAT IS THIS VERY HEAVY STONE? WHAT DID DANIEL PROPHESY? READ: READ: DANIEL 2:45 45 Inasmuch as you sawthat the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold: the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain and its interpretation is sure.

WHAT IS THIS VERY HEAVY STONE? READ: ISAIAH 28:16 16 Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily. READ: ISAIAH 66:18 18 I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues. They shall come and see My glory WHAT WILL BECOME OF IT? WHAT WILL THIS STONE DO?

READ: LUKE 20:17-18 17 He looked at them and said, What then is this that is written: The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone? 18 Whoever falls on that stonewill be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder. READ: MATTHEW 21:44 44 Whoever falls on this stonewill be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.

  20. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:3-4 4 In that day, says the LORD, I will strike every horse with confusion and its rider with madness. I will open My eyes on the house of Judah. And I will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. WHAT WILL THE LORD DO IN THAT DAY? WHAT DO THESE HORSES REPRESENT? READ: EXODUS 15:19-21 19 The horses of Pharaoh went with his chariots and his horsemen into the sea And the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them. But the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea. 20 Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand. All the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21 Miriam said: Sing to the LORD, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!

  21. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:3-4 4 In that day, says the LORD, I will strike every horse with confusion and its rider with madness. I will open My eyes on the house of Judah. And I will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. WHY WILL THE LORD OPEN HIS EYES ON JUDAH? READ: PSALMS 32:8 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with My eye. READ: PSALMS 33:18-19 18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, 19 To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.

READ: ZECHARIAH 12:5-6 5 The governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in the LORD of hosts, their God. 6 In that day I will make the governors of Judah like a fire pan in the woodpile, and like a fiery torch in the sheaves. They shall devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left, but Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place: Jerusalem.

QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:5-6 5 The governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in the LORD of hosts, their God. 6 In that dayI will make the governors of Judah like a fire pan in the woodpile, and like a fiery torch in the sheaves. They shall devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left, but Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place: Jerusalem. WHO ARE THOSE WHO GOVERN OVER JUDAH? WHERE IS THE STRENGTH OF THE LORD MANIFESTED? WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THAT DAY? WHAT WILL THE LORD DO? WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO JERUSALEM?

  24. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:5-6 5 The governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in the LORD of hosts, their God. WHO ARE THOSE WHO GOVERN OVER JUDAH? READ: EZEKIEL 30:24-26 24 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put My sword in his hand. But I will break Pharaoh's arms and he will groan before him with the groanings of a mortally wounded man. 25 Thus I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, But the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down. They shall know that I am the LORD, when I put My sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt. 26 I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries. They shall know that I am the LORD.

  25. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:5-6 5 The governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in the LORD of hosts, their God. WHAT WILL THE GOVERNORS SAY IN THEIR HEART? WHERE IS THE STRENGTH OF THE LORD MANIFESTED? WHERE IS THE STRENGTH OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL? READ: JOEL 3:16 16 The LORD also will roar from Zion And utter His voice from Jerusalem. The heavens and earth will shake. But the LORD will be a shelter for His people And the strength of the children of Israel.

It will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day. 18 It will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, Both soul and body. They will be as when a sick man wastes away. READ: OBADIAH 1:18 18 The house of Jacob shall be a fire And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble. They shall kindle them and devour them And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau, For the LORD has spoken.

They shall devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left, but Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place: Jerusalem. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO JERUSALEM? READ: ZECHARIAH 14:10-11 10 All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her placefrom Benjamin's Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate and from the Tower of Hananel to the king's winepresses. 11 The people shall dwell in it And no longer shall there be utter destruction But Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

READ: ZECHARIAH 12:7-8 7 The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall not become greater than that of Judah. 8 In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem. The one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David. The house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them.

WHICH TRIBE SHALL BE THE GREATER? WHY? IN THAT DAY, WHO WILL DEFEND JERUSALEM? WHO WILL THE PEOPLE BE LIKE? WHY?

QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:7-8 7 The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalemshall not become greater than that of Judah. WHAT WILL THEY GLORY IN? WHAT SHOULD THEY GLORY IN? READ: JEREMIAH 9:24 24 Let him who glories glory in this: That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising loving-kindness, judgment and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight, says the LORD. READ: 1 CORINTHIANS 1:31 31 It is written, He who glories, let him glory in the LORD. READ: 2 CORINTHIANS 10:17 17 He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.

QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:7-8 7 The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalemshall not become greater than that of Judah. WHICH TRIBE SHALL BE THE GREATER? WHY? WHO DID THE LORD SAY WOULD BE GREATER? WHO DID JESUS PREACH THE GOSPEL TO? WHY? READ: LUKE 4:18-19 18 The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. READ: LUKE 6:20 20 Jesus lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said: Blessed are you poor For yours is the kingdom of God.

READ: COLOSSIANS 3:11 11 There is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. READ: JAMES 2:5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdomwhich He promised to those who love Him?

  34. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:7-8 WHO DID THE LORD SAY WOULD BE THE GREATER? WHY? READ: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:22-25 22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor. Our un-presentable parts have greater modesty 24 But our presentable parts have no need. God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 That there should be no schism in the body. But that the members should have the same care for one another.

  35. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:7-8 8 In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem. The one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David. The house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them. IN THAT DAY, WHO WILL DEFEND JERUSALEM? WHO WILL THE PEOPLE BE LIKE? WHY?

  36. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:7-8 8 In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem. The one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David. The house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them. WHO WILL DEFEND JERUSALEM? READ: JEREMIAH 30:18 18 Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob's tents And have mercy on his dwelling places. The city shall be built upon its own mound And the palace shall remain according to its own plan. READ: AMOS 9:11 11 On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down And repair its damages. I will raise up its ruins And rebuild it as in the days of old.

  37. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:7-8 WHO WILL DEFEND JERUSALEM? READ: HAGGAI 2:22 22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms. I will overthrow the chariots And those who ride in them. The horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother. READ: PSALMS 91:4 4 He shall cover you with His feathers And under His wings you shall take refuge. His truth shall be your shield and buckler. READ: JOEL 3:16 16 The LORD will roar from Zion and utter His voice from Jerusalem. The heavens and earth will shake. But the LORD will be a shelter for His people and the strength of the children of Israel.

  38. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:7-8 8 In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem. The one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David. The house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them. WHO WILL THE PEOPLE BE LIKE? READ: PSALMS 82:6-7 6 I said, You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High. 7 But you shall die like men And fall like one of the princes. READ: MICAH 7:8 8 Do not rejoice over me, my enemy. When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, the LORD will be a light to me.

READ: ZECHARIAH 12:9-11 9 It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication. Then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. 11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:9-11 9 It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalemthe Spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. 11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. WHO WILL THE LORD SEEK TO DESTROY? WHAT WILL THE LORD POUR OUT ON THE HOUSE OF DAVID? WHAT IS ‘THE SPIRIT OF GRACE AND SUPPLICATION’? WHO PIERCED HIM? WHY? WHO WILL MOURN FOR HIM? WHY? WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PLAIN OF MEGIDDO?

  41. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 12:9-11 9 It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. WHO WILL THE LORD SEEK TO DESTROY? READ: 2 KINGS 23:29 29 In his days Pharaoh Nechoking of Egypt went to the aid of the king of Assyria, to the River Euphrates. King Josiah went against him And Pharaoh Necho killed him at Megiddo when he confronted him. READ: 2 CHRONICLES 35:23-25 24 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot and put him in the second chariot that he had, and they brought him to Jerusalem. So he died, and was buried in one of the tombs of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah. 25 Jeremiah also lamented for Josiah. And to this day all the singing men and the singing women speak of Josiah in their lamentations. They made it a custom in Israel and indeed they are written in the Laments.
