  3. A little background... • UK severely under-represented in EU institutions (European Commission, Parliament etc) • EFS originally launched in 1991 but stopped in 2007 • Resurrected in 2010 as part of the ‘Success in the EU’ initiative • Funded by all government departments

  4. The two year EFS programme • Departmental postings • Language Training • Intensive introduction to EU course • Concours - computer based tests training • Concours - assessment centre training • A five month placement in the European Commission (e.g. NEPT)

  5. The EU Civil Service selection process - The ‘Concours’ • Application form (incl. ‘Statement of Motivation’) • Initial online computer based tests (CBTs) • Assessment centre • Reserve list
