  2. What is Bullying? • “Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real of perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may haveserious, lasting problems.” • Bullying includes: • Making threats • Spreading rumors, • Attacking someone physical or verbally, and • Excluding someone from a group intentionally http://www.stopbullying.gov/what-is-bullying/definition/

  3. What is Cyber-bullying? Bullying … • through electronic devices such as cell phones, computers, and tablets. • through communication methods such as social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites. • which targets a child/teen by another child/teen or a group of children/teenagers. http://www.stopbullying.gov/cyberbullying/what-is-it/index.html

Training • Boys’ Town • Campuses trained in Well-Managed Classroom • Rachel’s Challenge • October 2012: Oct. 8 – 12 – Presentations for all 6th-9th and 12th graders and Training for campus student leadership teams (grades 6 – 12) • October 2013: Ysleta Community Event (Oct. 10th) and Chain Reaction Day (Oct. 11th) • Ongoing: Friends of Rachel Clubs and Random Acts of Kindness

  6. Training -2 • As of May 31, 2013, 63 campuses provided training to students in the areas of anti-bullying (100% of campuses). • Most secondary and some elementary schools provided dating and domestic violence training as well. • Anti-hazing taught by athletic and/or PE coaches and/or counselors.

  7. Anti-Bullying Task Forces • Each campus has established a task force as the first line for addressing concerns about bullying. • Mandatory members include the principal or designated administrator, counselor, and nurse. • Additional teachers may also actively participate.

  8. Further Steps • Protocol for addressing incidences of suspected bullying: • Notify campus principal, counselor, or other administrator • Campus Anti-Bullying Task Force meets to address concerns • If situation continues, parent may contact Pupil and Parent Services Director, Joe Sanchez for appointment.
