Centralisation and re-structuring in the NHS meant job insecurity and a job search ensued. I started work in the University as a Secretary on grade 3 and over the next 16 years moved up through most grades to grade 9. Part way through my current role I took one period of maternity leave. During my time within the HR division I studied for the Certificate in Personnel Practice, which helped me to progress further within the University to a departmental administrator role. I think I’m testimony to the opportunities that exist within the University to progress through roles if you’re prepared to embrace new (and sometimes!) daunting challenges.
