Balochistan Education Programme Duration of the Project: 2010 to 2014 (Five Years Project) Funding Agency: RNE through Save the Children (UK) Key Interventions • Up-gradation of 10 middle schools to High level; • Up-gradation of 25 primary schools to middle level; • Infrastructure improvement and provision of missing facilities in 305 primary schools of which 105 will have ECE centres; • Teachers training (about 5000); • Capacity building of PTSMCs and development of SEPs in target schools; • Introduction of formative assessment methods in all target schools; • Development & implementation of sports/extra curricular activities & Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities; • Strengthening of provincial planning systems & establishment of monitoring cells; • Research based support to improve education expenditure & utilization

Towards Joyful Learning Duration of the Project: 2008 to 2009 (three Years Project) Funding Agency: Save the Children (UK/NL) Key Interventions • Up-gradation of 2 primary schools to middle level; • Infrastructure improvement and provision of missing facilities in 10 primary schools; • Teachers training (about 40); • Capacity building of PTSMCs and development of SEPs in target schools; • School health component • Development & implementation of sports/extra curricular activities & Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities;

Strengthening DEMIS Duration of the Project: July 2007 to Dec 2010 (3.5 Years Project) Funding Agency: UNICEF Key Interventions • Development of DEMIS (EMIS online databases, web-based database application, Desktop GIS application and integration of EMIS with Google Earth); • Establishment and strengthening of DEMIS-Cells; • Providing technical assistance for conducting annual school census; • Data analysis and publication of “Education Statistics Year Books” and “Education Atlas” at district level; • Development of “District Education Development Plans”; • Support to Education Department in conducting annual school census, O&M of DEMICs and capacity building of concerned staff; • Pilot model for automation of High Schools and their integration with DEMIS; • Development and Implementation of FMIS and TEMIS for District Education Departments.

Balochistan Education Support Project Duration of the Project: 2007 to 2010 (40 months Project) Funding Agency: World Bank through BEF Key Interventions • Establishment of 57 community schools in District Killasaifulah, Zhob and Sherani; • Provision of operatinalization support and monitoring of 57 schools on regular basis; • Capacity building of Parent Education Committees on operationalization of schools; • Teachers Training;

Other Projects that Focuses Education as a Component • Quetta Integrated Urban Development Project: Focusing School DRR, Health & Hygiene education in schools, Adopt a School Campaign.(Funded by Concern Worldwide) • Improving Access to Water & Sanitation Facilities in District Killasaifullah and Pishin: Focusing School WES and Health & Hygiene Education(Funded by European Commission and Concern Worldwide); • Improving Access to Education and Drinking Water Facilities:Focusing the Improvement of school infrastructure, provision of missing facilities and health & hygiene education (funded by CIDA-BRF); • Education, Skills and Protection for Afghan Refugees and Host Communities: Focussing the non-formal basic education and adult literacy components (Funded by CRS/BPRM); • MICS Survey 2010: Focusing multiple sectors including Education (funded by UNICEF/P&DD GoB) • Preparation of District Development Profiles and Development Atlas for all 30 districts of Balochistan: Focusing Education as a separate chapter (funded by UNICEF/P&DD GoB)

Other Short Assignments Undertaken by IDO: • Establishment of “Governance Resource Center” at Quetta; • Establishment of “Career Counseling Unit” in two Universities, RDA and DCO Office Gawadar; • Distribution of relief items for purification and storage of drinking water in Jhall Magsi District affected by heavy rains and floods funded by UNCEF; • Conducting detailed assessment of damages caused to schools due to heavy rains and floods in 17 districts of Balochistan funded by UNICEF; • Conducting detailed assessment of damages caused to sanitation facilities due to heavy rains and floods in 17 districts of Balochistan funded by UNICEF and supported by Local Government and Rural Development Department Government of Balochistan

Other Short Assignments Undertaken by IDO • Development of Training Curriculum for capacity building of PTSMCs comprising of Trainer’s manual, Participants handbook and activity based training material combined into a training kit: funded by UNICEF and supported by Education Department Government of Balochistan; • Study on reasons for reluctance among female public sector employees of Health Department GoB to work in periphery; • Development of Website for City District Government Quetta; • Development and institutionalization of HRMIS for City District Government Quetta; • Independent Monitoring and Evaluation of Polio Eradication Campaign for the last three cycles on regular basis with the support of WHO;

Other Short Assignments Undertaken by IDO • Development of website for “Provincial Public Safety and Police Complaints Commission” in Balochistan; • Assisted the voter registration campaign in 8 districts of Balochistan through the NGO-NEP supported by Supporting National Elections in Balochistan (SNEP-UNDP); • Provision of Resource Persons to National Institute of Public Administration Institute NIPA for regular Lectures on Gender & Development; • Development of Directory of elected women councilors 1999; • Case Study of 10 female councilors in Balochistan; • Adopt a School Campaign in Collaboration with ECF;
