  1. Tsunami By Adrianna Rizzo & Kylie Steele

  2. What’s a tsunami? Tsunamis are a very long low seismic sea wave.

  3. How do tsunamis occur? A tsunami occurs when a powerful force moves the sea floor and displaces water. Once it displaces water it then creates a wave. The wave then goes through the ocean and once it reaches shore the wave gets bigger and causes destruction.

  4. Risks of Flooding: • Diseases • Economy • Environment

  5. Diseases • Water of the tsunami could get infected with serious medical issues. • Such as: military fever, pneumonic plague, dysentery, common cold, broken bones, starvation (due to loss of food) etc.

  6. Economy • Government has to input many resources for aiding or reconstruction • (Police force, fire control, aid worker, resources used for resisting flood, food providers, construction workers.)

  7. Environment • Flooding leads to damages of roads, collapse of bridges or traffic congestion, which may affect the daily schedule. • Flooding brings excess water which will cause damage to farmland.

  8. Preparation • Get to higher ground • Evacuate if the seafloor disturbance was large • If you feel the earth shake, do not wait for tsunami warning • Save lives not belongings • Avoid roads • If you have a boat and you’re on the ocean, do not port • Head inland • Watch out for debris

  9. Where do Tsunamis Occur?
