  2. Definitions! • Cold: Results from any of a number of viral infections of the upper respiratory tract • Most widespread and common of all diseases • Flu : An infectious disease caused by the influenza virus

  3. Cold Symptoms The Cold: • Runny nose • Stuffy nose • Cough • Sore throat • Headache • Mild fever • Sneezing

  4. Flu Symptoms The Flu: • Fever • Body aches • Tiredness • Dry cough

  5. Cold Prevention The Cold: • Avoid close contact • Know when to stay home • Wash hands often • Cover mouth when coughing

  6. Flu Prevention The Flu: • Get vaccinations • Antiviral drugs • Good health habits

  7. Treatment: Flu & Cold • Tylenol • Aspirin • Plenty of rest • Drink lots of clear fluids • Chicken Soup • Stay at home for at least a day

  8. Statistics • 5- 20% population gets flu • More than 200,000 people get hospitalized by flu • 36,000 people die from flu

  9. How it spreads • Inhaled by other people • Touching the person who's sick • Not washing hands • Sneezing/coughing without covering your mouth
