  3. 2013 Assessment Response Highlights S. Nelms • Improve the following categories • District-Wide Safety Plan • District Communication • Security Organization • Security and Staff Safety Training • GPD/Emergency Responder Coordination • Site Access

  4. Updated Safety Plan SN The district-wide safety plan is a general guide and lays the foundation for how we respond to emergencies. The entire plan was updated to reflect current procedures. Training was conducted with district staff at all buildings to ensure the general concepts of the plan were understood throughout the district.

  5. Updated Safety Plan SN Building-level safety plans were expanded and made more specific. A template was created to ensure the district is consistent from building to building. Worked with representatives from NYS to ensure the GCSD is in compliance with current guidelines and a copy of the current plan will be submitted to NYS by the designated submission date. The 2014-15 building plans have been updated.

  6. Improve Communication SN The key to any emergency planning is communication New radios ordered, licensed and installed in all high schools. The new radios allow for communication district-wide. Old high school radios were repaired, licensed and distributed to elementary schools Repeaters were installed in each high school Switched to UHF frequency in order to communicate with transportation

Improve Security Organization SN • A clear chain of command was implemented and distributed. • Building Principal and Director of Security role is clearly defined • One Senior Security Worker at each high school and each elementary school reports to a designated high school • Athena and Arcadia high/middle schools are each considered one campus • Standard Operating Procedures have been updatedin order to have district-wide security procedures • Uniforms and appearance upgraded

Improve Security and Staff Training SN • Security training records centralized • Over 1000 hours of training conducted in 2013-14 school year • National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) • Active Shooter • Drug Recognition Training • Over 100 AED/CPR new training certifications have been obtained this year

Improved Relations and Training with GPD and Emergency Responders SN 24 hour designated liaison with GPD Each school’s Safety Team now includes members of GPD and local fire departments Table Top drills were conducted with the assistance of local emergency responders throughout the year and most schools 2014-15 drills are already scheduled

  10. Site Access SN • Variety of changes will go into effect during the 2014-15 school year: • Purchased the RAPTOR visitor management system • Improved substitute teacher procedures • Enforcement of staff wearing identification • New cameras installed in every building
