  1. PARTS OF A SPEECH • What is this? • It is an object What is an object? It is a Noun

  2. How many parts of speech are there? • They are eight in number: • 1. Noun 5. Adverb • 2. Adjectives 6. Preposition • 3. Pronoun 7. Conjunction • 4. Verb 8. Interjection

  3. Each part has a work to do in a sentence • An Adjective describes the subject or the Noun. • This dress is pretty.

  4. Let’s see what a pronoun does • Mary is reading. She will not play. • So a Pronoun • Is used instead • of a Noun

  5. Come have a look at the action word in a sentence. • It is the Verb that speaks of some action by the Noun/Pronoun in a sentence. • We always play together.

  6. How and where do we work, this is shown by an Adverb • That is an Adverb modifies a Verb in a sentence. • Tom ranfast.

  7. We place a Preposition before a noun to relate it to another noun • The cat is sleeping under the table.

  8. We can join two sentences by a Conjunction • John likes cakes. • John like chocolates. • John likes cakesandchocolates. • and

  9. At times we need to express some strong feelings • Hurray ! We have won the match.
