Screen Time Stats • Children ages 8-18 spend the following amount of time in front of a screen daily: • Approximately 7.5 hours using entertainment media. • Approximately 4.5 hours watching TV. • Approximately 1.5 hours on the computer. • Over an hour playing videogames. VERSUS • 25 minutes per day that children spend reading books. • From the Canadian Health Measures Survey, only 9% of boys and 4% of girls meet the new Canadian Physical activity guidelines (60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity daily)

  9. For Homework • Complete the screen time versus physical activity chart to compare how much time you are spending in front of a screen with how much time you are being physically active. • Do this for five consecutive days! • Write a brief reflection about your total • BE HONEST! • Due next health class.

  10. Extra Credit • Complete the screen time versus physical activity chart for ten consecutive days. • Find a website with information aimed at reducing screen time. • In a word document or on a sheet of paper, provide the URL and write a brief paragraph summarizing what you found.
