  2. Information about the Wedge Tailed Eagle Name: Wedge Tailed Eagle Scientific Name: Aquila Audax Description: Wedge Tailed Eagle has a wing span of 2. 3m. Youngsters start off as a mid brown colour, with a reddish head and wings. For the fist ten years of a wedge tails life, it will slowly change to a blackish brown colour. A lighter plumage on a wedge tailed eagle marks it as a female, and darker colours represent a male. The Wedge Tailed Eagle is the largest raptor or bird of prey For more facts on the Wedge Tailed Eagle, visit birdsinbackyards.net/species/Aquila-audax

  3. Why are they endangered? The Wedge Tailed Eagle is endangered for two reasons • Breeding pairs and the birth success rates are low • The rate for unnatural deaths high Wedge tailed eagles are shy breeders.

  4. How we can help Seeing as wedge tailed eagles are shy breeders, farmers are urged to protect the eagle. If a nest is found, land owners are encouraged to leave at least ten hectares of bush around it. By doing this, eagles are more likely to breed. Move road kill some good 5 – 10m from the road. When the eagle comes down to feed, it’ll be hit by a car. By moving the road kill to the side, all the danger would be eliminated
