  1. Hydrogen Economy Mohammed Jalal Al-Muhannad Al-Atawi 11N

  2. Brief analysis of Hydrogen economy The hydrogen economy is a proposed system of delivering energy using hydrogen. The term hydrogen economy was coined by John Bockris during a talk he gave in 1970 at General Motors Technical Center.

  3. What is a Hydrogen Economy? For many years the Hydrogen Community was formed by a group of dedicated scientists, engineers, environmentalists and activists. This group of pioneers and concerned individuals brought hydrogen to the forefront of public awareness at the turn of the century. As we proceed into the 21st Century, this community is bringing in industry, business and the general public. Hydrogen is no longer a novelty; it will become as common and as accepted a commodity as the fossil fuels of the 20th Century. The transition period will be interesting as the hydrogen community grows and eventually becomes a hydrogen society.

  4. How hydrogen is produced? Hydrogen is produced by using excess wind power to electrolyze water to produce hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is used in the municipal water treatment plant nearby to speed up the biological process. The hydrogen is stored in low-pressure storage tanks at six bars and fuels two PEM Fuel Cell Micro Combined Heat and Power stations of 2 kilowatts and 6.5 kW.

  5. Places where this theory is implemented? In the city of Nakskov on the island of Lolland, where wind power is abundant, a hydrogen energy plant was built and has received funding from the Danish Energy Authority, and is a joint partnership between the Municipality of Lolland, IRD Fuel Cells, and Baltic Sea Solutions. The island is producing 50% more energy from renewable energy sources than it consumes, and the hydrogen project is seeking to locally store excess wind power in the form of hydrogen for use in residential and industrial facilities.

  6. Impact into the Earth's stratosphere Hydrogen-fueled cars are environmentally friendly because they emit only water vapor, a naturally abundant atmospheric gas. But leakage of the hydrogen gas that can fuel such cars could cause problems for the upper atmosphere. Researchers from the California Institute of Technology report that the leaked hydrogen gas that would inevitably result from a hydrogen economy, if it accumulates, could indirectly cause as much as a 10-percent decrease in atmospheric ozone.
