  1. Reactions in Aqueous Solutions 11.3

  2. Do Now – On a separate piece of paper write you answers to the following questions. 1. What is a precipitate? 2. What is combustion? 3. What is a catalyst? Objective – Reactions in Aqueous Solutions HW – Pg. 344 # 32-35

  3. What is so special about water?

  4. What is so special about water? Ions can disassociate in water. NaCl (aq) is really Na++ Cl-

  5. What is so special about water? More then 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. Your body is around 65% water. Ions can disassociate in water.

  6. Complete Ionic Equation AgNO3(aq) + NaCl(aq) → AgCl(s) + NaNO3 (aq) Write as individual ions

  7. Complete Ionic Equation AgNO3(aq) + NaCl(aq) → AgCl(s) + NaNO3 (aq) Spectator Ion – Ion not directly involved in reaction

  8. Net Ionic Equation Shows only the particles that are directly involved with the reaction. Must be balanced for both mass and charge.

  9. Formation of Precipitates Table 11.3 An insoluble compound will form as a solid in aqueous solutions and is called a precipitate.
