  1. Negative Peer Pressure: What roles can parents play in?

  2. Let us first deal with the question of “What exactly is peer pressure?” It is this social pressure within a group of people belonging to the same age, where an individual feels that he or she must be doing things to fit into the group without even feeling comfortable about doing it.  They are pressured for doing something without looking at the moral side, for the fear of being thrown out of the gang as an outcast. These peer pressures need not always be negative, it could be as good as encouraging. But most often they turn out to be negative, leading school children into wrong habits such as drugs, alcohol, stealing, bullying, reckless activities etc.

  3. Best group therapy services help children in standing their ground withstanding the pressures.  Even parents have a huge role in helping their children in these situations. Let us see how:

  4. Be Open with your child: Always create a homely environment within the house, where children feel like talking about anything related to their life. Make them believe that you are also a good friend, rather than just being a parent. Have open communication about your lives and encourage them to speak about theirs. Make a plan: You may have to create a cunning plan for helping your child get away from bad situations. You could create a secret code that stays within you two, as soon as you receive the code, phone your child with any family emergency and get him or her out of the trouble.

  5. Be courageous to give them proper information: Most children gain information about different things from their peers, since parents are reluctant to talk about drugs and matters like that. This information gain can be mostly misleading. So take some time off and discuss things with your child even though it would be a bit embarrassing. In that way they gain the right knowledge and could make better decisions.  Set age-appropriate limits: It is not necessary that if your child reached a certain age set them free. You will have to set some boundaries and curfews to ensure their safety. This will remain in their minds before they attempt anything stupid.

  7. Express your confidence in children: You will have to constantly support and encourage your children, this will increase their self-confidence and self-esteem.  Thus, before doing anything inappropriate yours will be the first image that pops into their mind, the trust you have in your child. There is a high chance of them dropping the course for not failing in front of a supportive father or mother.

  8. Share your own path: When faced with realities and problems children may feel blue and the end of the world. In situations like that, you will have to start sharing your own struggles, the options you had in your way, which path you took and how it made all the differences. Here you are setting yourselves as an example before your child, for them to learn.

  9. CONCLUSION Keeping all these in mind, parents can easily help their children in whole new environments, meeting with peer pressures. Best group therapy in Sharjah and other places are providing almost the same kind of support services that parents sometimes fail to do or when the situation gets out of their control. Make your child stubborn enough to say a strong NO in uncomfortable situations faced in reality.
