  2. Political Cartoon • In support of the Albany Congress, Benjamin Franklin published the now-famous cartoon entitled “Join, or Die.” • This image has become an iconic image in the annals of political cartoons. Now view this cartoon, which was released in 2004:

  3. Painting • Starry Night • Starry Night was painted in 1889 by the infamous Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch post-Impressionist painter who cut off his left ear, wrapped it in newspaper and handed it to a prostitute (and you thought your Friday night was wild). The painting supposedly depicts the view from Van Gogh’s sanitorium room window in Southern France. • He may have been a wee bit eccentric (ok, nuts), but the man certainly had a feel for color. The bold, cool color palette that occupies most of the canvas is nicely violated with the intense, warm tones of the lights and stars.

  4. Sculpture • Michelangelo’s David David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture created between 1501 and 1504, by the Italian artist Michelangelo. It is a 5.17-metre marble statue of a standing male nude. Wikipedia

  5. Photography • Fatman Bomb • Japan, 1945 • Taken from one of the B-29 Superfortresses used in the attack / • This classic is undeniably one of the world’s most famous photographs. It depicts the nuclear explosion over Nagasaki, known as the Fat Man mushroom cloud, on August 9th, 1945. The US bombing of Japan, in the final stages of World War II, obliterated three city miles and killed 70,000 people immediately and many more through radiation exposure in the years to come.

  6. Advertising • 1946 Camel Cigarette Ad • One of the most successful campaigns ever
