  1. Welcome Second Graders Augusta Circle Elementary Mrs. Manigault

  2. Morning Arrival 7:45-8:15 • Second Graders report to the library before 8 am. Class procedures begin promptly at 8:00. • Any communication needs to be given to the teacher in written form at this time.

  3. Math Calendar 8:15-8:30 • Our math lesson begins with Morning Meeting where we teach practical application of the math standards. • We encourage you to “talk” math concepts daily (grocery store, family trips, newspaper, TV weather report, etc.)

  4. Math 8:30-9:15 • A multi-method approach is used to address all types of learners. • As state expectations continue to increase, it is necessary that children demonstrate a knowledge of basic addition & subtraction facts to 20.

  5. Reading and Word Study 9:15-10:15 • A multi-disciplinary approach is used to teach reading. Our daily instruction includes: • Comprehension Strategies • Vocabulary Development • Phonics, Spelling, & decoding Skills • Written Response Activities • Self-Selected Reading

  6. Writer's Workshop 10:30-11:15 Reading, Language and Spelling skills are taught daily as part of writing workshop.

  7. Related Arts 11:15-12:00 Monday: Music Tuesday: PE - Remember tennis shoes! Wednesday: Library - Remember your library book! Thursday: Computer Lab Friday: Art

  8. Lunch 12:35-1:05 • We encourage you to join us for lunch! • Please be sure to check into the main office and meet us at the cafeteria door or in the cafeteria, not in the classroom. • We prefer individual birthday treats between 10:00 & 10:30. • Please send all lunch money in an envelope marked with the amount and your child’s name. • Remember, Commercial meals are prohibited. • Our school policy is that all students must remain silent for the first ten minutes. • (See page 9 of the handbook for additional information.)

  9. Science 1:30-1:55 • Science and Health are taught in units and integrated with other activities. • Nutrition • Weather • Magnets • Matter • Life Cycles • Body & teeth

  10. Social Studies 1:30-1:55 We teach Social Studies units and incorporate social studies skills into daily lessons. Our lessons are enhanced by incorporating Current Event Lessons using the “Social Studies Weekly” publication.

  11. Recess 1:10-1:25 A time for physical activity and interaction with peers is an important part of each school day. We walk laps between 10:00 & 10:30 each day as part of the Marathon Club. This is also when we will have snacks or birthday treats.

  12. Afternoon Dismissal 2:20-2:30 Be sure to sign your child out in the office for any early dismissal. The office will then call for your child. Please remember to send a note with your child if there will be a dismissal change.

  13. Homework A weekly assignment goes home each Monday in the Homework folder. The folder also includes announcements and CompassLearning computer assignments. Return completed work in the folder each Friday.

  14. Classroom Management Classroom procedures are included in each child’s packet. Please read over these with your child. These procedures enable each child to reach his/her potential and help create a positive classroom environment!

  15. Field Trips • Chaperones are drawn from the pool of volunteers and contacted by the teacher. • Special lunch instructions will be given for each trip.

  16. Communication • I believe you are such an important part of your child’s education and I appreciate the opportunity to share in this journey with you.   17. ...and Many More! Special Projects The home school connection is important. Various home projects will be assigned throughout the year. These projects support the Second Grade curriculum and will be evaluated with a grade.

  18. Volunteer in our Classroom! Volunteers • We appreciate your volunteering! You are very important! We need volunteers in the following capacities: • SEEDS • Circus • Snazzy Snacks/Readers • Treasure Box Suppliers
