  3. SASCOC’S ROLE • Mandate is High Performance Delivery - Develop Talent identification, Talent Development Systems that are of high standard with the global arena. - Produce high quality athletes or world- class sports women and men. - Develop world-class Coaching System

STRATEGY • SASCOC has developed a National Academy System that will include PAS as part of the High Performance delivery system. • The system will be managed centrally. • SASCOC develops Policies and Strategic Direction of the NAS in partnership with relevant stakeholders. • Create and maintain good working relation with - The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Sport and SRSA. - The National Lottery Board. • PDSR are Key Strategic Partner in the delivery of High Performance Sport.

STRATEGY CONT…. • Measurable targets are set from National to Provincial Academies. • Standards or criteria to identify athletes with potential at PAS must fit into the system of NAS. • SASCOC with greater resources would still need a structured partnership with PDSR for success. • Sign a Service level agreement which will clearly outline responsibilities of SASCOC and the Provincial Department in the partnership.

  10. LONG TERM VISION To be recognized as a South African leader in high performance sport programs

MISSION STATEMENT To provide professional support services to assist athletes, coaches, technical officials and administrators at the top level of the sports development continuum in the Western Cape; and particularly to develop those athletes with elite potential from the disadvantaged backgrounds.

OBJECTIVES • To contribute to the development of a provincial and national long term strategic plan for high performance sport in the Western Cape and South Africa • To maintain a financially secure organization funded by government and non-governmental sources • To ensure adequate administrative support and financial controls are in place • To enhance the level of performance of talented athletes in the Western Cape

OBJECTIVES • To facilitate a change in the demographic composition of provincial and national teams to be more representative of the South African population • To ensure a holistic approach is taken toward the development of athletes and coaches • To enhance the education of individuals and groups by means of training opportunities to coaches, administrators and technical officials • Raise the profile of the Academy and its athletes and coaches

To contribute to the development of a provincial and national, long term strategic plan for high performance sport in the Western Cape and South Africa • Lobby sports macro bodies to alter funding patterns in order to ensure Provincial and National Federations are provided with the resources to implement strategically driven high performance programs. This includes the provision of full time national coaches and high performance managers. • Lobby to change the direction of the SASCOC high performance program to promote greater flexibility at the point of delivery, with services coordinated through the provincial academy network

To maintain a financially secure organization funded by government and non-government sources • Increase base funding provided by government agencies National lottery, SASCOC, WC DCAS • Increase off-budget revenue through establishing partnerships with corporate sector • Lobby government and liaise with stakeholders to secure a permanent location for the Academy • Introduce an ‘Adopt an Athlete’ program to generate funds from commercial sources

To ensure adequate administrative support and financial controls are in place • Maintain central administrative offices including Manager, Athlete Services manager, Technical services manager and Administrative assistant • Work towards the establishment of full time administrative support for satellites in the Boland and SWD • Ensure performance agreements in place with all priority squad based programs

Enhance the level of performance of talented athletes in the Western Cape • Generate funds to appoint full time coaching staff for all priority squad sport programs • Provide quality sport science services through the employment of full time staff including a Technical Services Manager, physiologist, strength and conditioning instructor, physiotherapist and massage therapist • Provide quality medical and biomechanical services to athletes on a service provider basis • Work towards the appointment of a part time nutritionist and sport psychologist • Provide sport science and medicine services to rural and regional athletes on a service provider basis

Facilitate a change in the demographic composition of provincial and national teams to be more representative of the South African population • Expand programs to identify, nurture and develop sporting talent, particularly in historically disadvantage communities • Provide professional coaching to athletes in talent development programs • Expand squad based programs with the addition of sports targeted at developing athletes from historically disadvantage communities • Provide technical and scientific support to team Western Cape for the SA Games. Work towards ensuring that talented athletes identified through the SA Games are provided with adequate support services. • Work closely with the School sport unit of the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport in relation to Sport School in the Western Cape.

Ensure a holistic approach is taken toward the development of athletes and coaches • Ensure the provision of appropriate life skills programs for all athletes • Work towards appointment of an Athlete Career and education coordinator • Ensure appropriate drug education programs are in place for athletes, coaches and administrators

Enhance the education of individuals and groups by means of training opportunities to coaches, administrators and technical officials • Establish a Western Cape Sport Education centre (WCSEC) through liaison with all key stakeholders in the area • Through the WCSEC provide generic and sport specific coach, administrator and technical official education programs • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for Academy coaches • Implement an annual coaching conference conducted under the auspices of the WCSEC

  21. Raise the profile of the Academy and its athletes and coaches • Establish a fulltime position for a marketing and public relations officer in the central office • Establish and maintain linkages with media and other strategic partners • Develop a comprehensive suite of promotional resources • Implement an ‘Athletes in Schools promotional program

  22. SASCOC CODES • 15 Priority codes in two categories • Selection – International ranking • A – Athletics, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Swimming, Netball, Boxing & Rowing • B – Gymnastics, Baseball, Volleyball, Basketball, Hockey, Badminton
