  1. PS2 NMC Lattices Wolfgang Bartmann, Dejan Trbojevic and Yannis Papaphilippou PS2 Meeting, 18-September 2008

  2. Outline • Constraints • Long straight section (LSS) • High filling factor option • Fundamental FMC block • Dispersion suppressor • Ring with chromaticity correction • Low γt option PS2 NMC Lattices

  3. Optics constraints PS2 NMC Lattices

  4. LSS: Triplet Insertion Concept 7 cell “DOFO”: Extraction Hminus Dump Fast Inj MTEBK MS2 MS1 ES ExtK MTEBK BD DuK InjK InjS 90 o Triplet 6 cell “FODO”: MTEBK MS2 MS1 ES ExtK MTEBK BD DuK InjK InjS Focusing Quad between LSS and ARC allows to reduce the LSS by one cell, i.e. ~ 20m Triplet PS2 NMC Lattices

  5. LSS Optics 10 m 22 m LSS length: 145 m Drifts in triplet provide space for Hminus elements and extraction kickers Next: Beam waste in the triplet center has to be shifted to a beta minimum of 22.5 m PS2 NMC Lattices

  6. High filling – Fundamental Block L =78.23 m Dipole length: 3.488 m Quad families: 4 Drifts Quad to MB: 0.7 m MB to MB: 0.6 m BPM/Corrector: 1.0 m Sextupole: 1.0 m PS2 NMC Lattices

  7. High filling – Dispersion suppressor Matching cell LSS y*7 Dispersionx10 Arc cell Matching cell LSS PS2 NMC Lattices

  8. High filling - Ring γt : 39i Betax,max: 45m Betay,max: 54 m Dx: -3.55 m to +3.36 m Sextupole tune shift: νx = 0.8332 - 61 Jx + 0.31 Jy νy = 0.4486 + 0.31 Jx + 64 Jy PS2 NMC Lattices

  9. Low γtNMC • Lower γt (this example 25i) allows easier high energy gymnastics • Similar NMC module with one dipole in the center • Shorter quadrupoles necessitate higher quadrupole gradients (but always below 14 T/m) • Shorter cell (70m) allowing 6NMC modules per arc • Space constraints as for the high γt version • Matching to the straight section should be similar PS2 NMC Lattices

  10. Conclusions • Triplet LSS well matched with zero dispersion • Two NMC modules: • 2 dipoles in the center: gt= 39i, Dmax= -3.55 to + 3.33 m • 1 dipole in the center: gt= 25i, Dmax= -2.2 to + 2.1 m • Enough drift room for the pick-ups, orbit and sextupole corrections. • Natural chromaticities: xx=-19, and xy=-12 • Two sextupole families with small field • Chromaticity correction: second order tune shift induced by sextupoles is very small. PS2 NMC Lattices

  11. Further steps • Dispersion suppressor for 1 dipole option • Working point matching and tunability • Dynamic aperture studies • Orbit correction • Collimation system optics PS2 NMC Lattices
