  1. The History Of computers By: James Jones

  2. In 1998, the Gateway G6-450 was "top of the line", the fastest computer Gateway offered.  Compared it to the machines ET1161-07 in 2009.  Notice that the processor has become 4 times faster, the hard drive is over 20 times larger, and your mouse no longer needs a track ball that can get clogged up with dirt.  Not only does the new computer have all those improvements, but it costs $3,920 less!

  3. If you have ever looked at the back of your computer, you may have noticed a collection of oddly shaped things that look like outlets.  These are your computers many Ports.  They are how your computer connects to the many peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, keyboard, mouse, and many more.  If you can identify these connections and know how to use them, you will be able to get more out of your computer.  Listed and shown below are many of the ports found on today's computer and a brief description of each.

  4. Technology in our society is changing at a tremendous pace.  People 25 years ago could not imagine much of what we take for granted every day, such as cell phones, global positioning devices, digital cameras, the list goes on and on. In this section, you will learn about the biggest thing to hit our culture since television, the Internet. We will then focus on the most powerful service available on the Internet, the World Wide Web.

  5. It will be almost impossible to predict what the Web will be like in the future. Ten years ago, few people would have predicted the rapid growth of the web in size and content. There are three things you can bet on.1) More and more people will use the web. Not only is the world’s population increasing, but computer prices keep falling.  As the “computer generation” grows into adulthood, replacing the "baby-boom" generation in the work force, web use will increase.

  6. 2) The Web will get faster and faster. Not too long ago, you would have been happy to have a 28.8 Kilobytes per/sec modem. Then 56k modems came along. Now there is DSL and Cable offering speeds over 1000k. Over 70% of high school students in suburbia America already has a high speed connection. There is already talk about an Internet2, bringing technology enabling everyone will have the speed that only today’s backbone lines enjoy.

  7. 3) The Web will grow continually grow more wireless. Popping up all over the United States are “hot spots”, areas where a business, school, or home is broadcasting their Internet connection. All laptops are now equipped with Mobile Technology to automatically connect to any wireless Internet signal it can find. Many restaurants are broadcasting a wireless signal in an effort to attract more customers. Many predict that within a few years, you may not need a wired connection at all.

  9. The computers of today have grown to become both economical and powerful.  Just to give you an example of how owning your own computer, capable of building and viewing high quality, professional web pages, is more practical today, look at the comparison below.
