The history of the Hungarian language • The phases of its development: • -        the period of the early Hungarian language (895-896) – there are no written memories, not much is known about the history of the language • -        the old Hungarian period (895-1526) – written memories in the Latin language – the foundation document of Tihany Abbey (1055) • -        the Middle-Hungarian period (1526-1722) – printing of books, dictionaries, writing – grammar books

  5. -        the new Hungarian period (from 1772 till now) – language reform, (…………) foreign words, word formation, the use of dialect words and foreign words • 1884: an official language
