Fault Test Board

Fault Test Board. Developed by Allan Goodger Moss Vale TAFE. From Boards originally developed by Ken Postill Ultimo TAFE. Ken’s Board. Faults introduced by 3 x 9 Gang switches. Contacts oxidise, and as a result a high resistance is introduced into the circuit.

  1. Fault Test Board Developed by Allan Goodger Moss Vale TAFE From Boards originally developed by Ken Postill Ultimo TAFE

  2. Ken’s Board Faults introduced by3 x 9 Gangswitches Contacts oxidise, and as a result a high resistance is introduced into the circuit Limited number of faults can be introduced into the circuit Very good at developing fault finding techniques in students in realistic scenario Next

  3. Allan’s Board Faults introduced bySeparate Fault CardPlugged into a socket All conductors are cut at this set of sockets All circuit conductors from every circuit can be modified Next

  4. Board Contains Hot Water & RangeCircuit Power Circuit Mixed Circuit Light Circuit Next

  5. Hot Water&Range Circuit Circuit to load is as per all other circuits Terminates with flying leads Load characteristics can be modified by the fault card Next

  6. Fault Socket B&R Enclosure PJ221507 2 x 3mm groves are routered into the box lid Socket PCB is inserted into slots from the back of the lid Clamped into position by an insulated metal plate Next

  7. Fault Socket Vero Board Jaycar Part No HP 9544 Cardboard acting as insulation 3mm Mild steel with 3/16” threads cut into each corner Socket Strips Farnell Part No 9728856 3/16” Screws Installed from the front of the lid B&R Enclosure PJ221507 Lid Next

  8. Socket Pin-Outs From Switchboard Only Half of the socket is used From Loads This allows the fault card to be spun around and a second set of faults can be introduced Next

  9. Fault Card Fault card installed Pin 1 With Fault Fault card No See paperwork Next

  10. Fault Card Fault card installed Without Fault Next

  11. Fault Card Side View Back View Header pins Farnell Part No 9729038 Next

  12. CB Enclosure Load side of CBs are easily accessible By using a 4mm2 (yellow) crimp lug and crimping a 2.6mm Brass welding rod in it Next

  13. CB Enclosure Neutrals are easily removed By the use of turned plugs Cable should be min of 50 strand for flexibility Next

  14. Improvements • Add/incorporate a handle into board Next

  15. Improvements • Add/incorporate a handle into board • Add spacers in-between clamping plate and back of lid The front of the lid between the screws tends to bow outward Next

  16. Improvements • Add/incorporate a handle into board • Add spacers in-between clamping plate and back of lid • Pass the socket connecting wires through PCB before soldering Solder Next

  17. Equipment Requirements See supplied equipment list Next
