The Holy Spirit & Truth • The Holy Spirit is called “the Spirit of Truth” (John 14:16; 15:26; 16:13). • He is Truth (I John 5:6). • As a Witness, His veracity is above question. • All His words are right and accurate, beyond suspicion. • The Gospel is incorruptible being “the Truth through the Spirit” (I Peter 1:22–23). • Revelation (Ephesians 3:5) • Inspiration (I Peter 1:12; II Peter 1:21) • Confirmation (Mark 16:20; Hebrews 2:3)

The Holy Spirit & Truth • Revelation & inspiration are distinct works of the Holy Spirit: • To reveal is to uncover, to unveil, to make known by known divine means what otherwise cannot be known. • Things God did, not witnessed (Genesis 1; Job 38:4) • God’s laws (Genesis 2:16–17; Romans 7:7) • Promises & prophecies (Genesis 3:15; 12:1–3; Matthew 24; Acts 11:27–28; II Thessalonians 1:7–9) • The provisions of the Gospel (Ephesians 3:2–6)

  4. The Holy Spirit & Truth • Revelation & inspiration are distinct works of the Holy Spirit: • To inspire is to “breathe into” (II Timothy 3:16). That which the Holy Spirit breathed into man was the words expressing “the things of God” (II Corinthians 2:11). • The process of revelation was accomplished through inspiration (II Corinthians 4:1–7). It was a gradual process of the Holy Spirit giving these things to the prophets & apostles (II Peter 1:12–21; I Peter 1:12).

The Holy Spirit & Truth • Revelation & inspiration are distinct works of the Holy Spirit: • Not all that is inspired constitutes revelation: • Records from history (Luke 2:1–3; Daniel 4; Ezra 5) • Secondhand accounts (Matthew 28:15; I Corinthians 1:11; 5:1; II Corinthians 7:6–7). • Personal testimony (John 14:26; Acts 2:32; I Corinthians 1:16; Galatians 1:20). • However, all that is inspired is unquestionably correct.

The Holy Spirit & Truth • Revelation & inspiration are distinct works of the Holy Spirit: • The character & nature of the Holy Spirit determines the character and nature of the Scriptures which He inspires and reveals. • Immutable, cannot be broken (Titus 1:2; John 10:35) • Perfect & Sufficient (II Timothy 3:15–17) • Eternal (Psalms 119:160; I Peter 1:25) • Omnipotent (Isaiah 55:11; Romans 1:16; Hebrews 4:10)
