  2. The Problem Currently there is no control of visitors onto campus. These proposed changes are designed to better monitor all visitors , boost awareness, and increase safety across the campus.

  3. Stop question & verify Between 9 pm and 6 am: All visitors to campus must sign in and out at the main gate with Public Safety Campus roadway is one-way, with only West Gate open License plates and drivers licenses must be logged in and out Tilles Center for Performing Arts exceptions

  4. Park walk & talk From 6 am to 9 pm: Increase the number of officers on bike patrol Mobile public safety officers (on bikes or in vehicles) walk and talk with students and staff Increase visibility of campus security and improve public relations for public safety and the campus as a whole Communicate “blue light” emergency use and awareness to students. visitors, and staff Educate public safety officers, staff, and faculty on warning signs and possible dangers (like NYC “If you see something, say something” campaign)

  5. Student safety first • Add cameras at blue light emergency stations • Continue and expand use of text alerts to all students and staff (make it an opt-out program) • Advertise PSEA (Public Safety Escort Assistance) to campus community • Increase campus bus service frequency (10 minute turn-around) for convenience and safety of users • Inform students and staff annually of all safety options available to them (who to contact & how to make contact) • Information lecture series about signs of: • bullying • student social withdrawal • unnecessary & excessive risk taking • inappropriate, erratic and/or violent behaviors • others

  6. Future phases • This is the first phase of proposed upgrades to Campus Safety Procedures • Future phases will address Emergency Response Planning for • Public Safety • Public Relations • University Center • And budgetary line items
