What is the National Guard? • The Army National Guard is an elite group of warriors who dedicate a portion of their time to serving their nation • Each state has its own Guard, as required by the Constitution; in fact, it is the only branch of the military whose existence is actually required by the Constitution • Citizen-Soldiers train one weekend a month and two weeks per year to be ready to serve • Citizens living full-time in the community pursuing careers and education • Soldiers ready to respond to the needs of their community and country when called

8. ROTC Options • Simultaneous Membership Program • Receive pay for monthly drills and Annual Training • Receive the ROTC monthly stipend • Obtain advanced rank as an officer candidate • Qualify for possible eligibility for an ROTC scholarship • Dedicated National Guard Scholarships • Dedicated National Guard scholarships are available in 2, 2.5 and 3-year awards • Scholarships pay full tuition at any accredited 4-year college/university without limit (can be transferred to room and board)

9. United States Military Academy West Point • Each year about 200 Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard Soldiers are offered admission to the U.S. Military Academy or the Preparatory School at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey • All applications are made directly to West Point • Soldiers not directly admitted to West Point will be automatically considered for admission to the Prep School. • Soldiers who meet the basic eligibility requirements, have achieved SAT scores greater than 1000 or ACT composite score of 20 or higher and achieved average grades or better in their high school curriculum are especially encouraged to apply • More information http://admissions.usma.edu/Soldiers/

10. Qualifications for Enlistment • Be at least 17 years old • Be a high school junior or senior • Pass medical screening physical • Pass a physical fitness screening • Qualify for an Army National Guard unit vacancy

11. Qualifications for ROTC • ROTC requires GPA of 2.5 or higher for scholarship cadets, 2.0 for non-scholarship cadets • Minimum test scores: 910 SAT; 19 ACT • Pass medical screening physical • Pass a physical fitness screening

12. Statutory and contractual obligations • All personnel incur an 8-year statutory obligation (MSO) upon initial entry into the Armed Forces • Three years of which must be with a drilling unit or active duty • Service obligations for Medical Corps officers will not exceed 10-years

13. Split-Option Enlistment • Enlistment as a high school junior • Attend basic training between your junior and senior years of high school • Earn Army National Guard pay during your junior and/or senior year • Attend nine weekend drills as a high school senior • Reduce college attendance requirements • Take advantage of college examination programs and earn college credit while in high school • Pursue a college • Finance your education with Army National Guard benefits

14. College First Program • Up to two years of non-deployment following completion of Initial Active Duty Training • Must be a high school graduate or graduating senior • Must score 50 or higher on ASVAB • Must agree to complete Initial Active Duty training immediately following Basic Training • Must be accepted into an accredited college or university and remain a full-time student in good standing

15. Enlistment Incentive Programs • $20,000 bonus for enlisting for six years in a top ten specialty • $20,000 bonus for enlisting for six years in one of 20 designated specialties in your state • $15,000 for three year enlistment in some units • $5,000 for reporting for basic training during an off-peak training cycle, or 45 days of enlistment

16. High School Completion Program (HSCP) • Federal Tuition Assistance (TA) is authorized for 100% of tuition costs of courses leading up to a high school diploma or equivalent • Cap of $4500 per year • TA will only be paid to an accredited institution • Student must be at least 17, in junior year academic standing, have taken ASVAB, and been to the Medical Entry Point Station (MEPS) • Will do split-option enlistment if junior, will go to basic and advanced individual training straight thru if senior

17. Army National Guard Federal Tuition Assistance Program • Program benefits • 100 perfect of tuition costs up to $250 per credit hour • $4,500 maximum benefit for tuition and fees per fiscal year • Course can be residential or distance learning • How to qualify • Complete Basic Training • Be in active drilling status • Have enough time remaining on service obligation to complete the course

18. Virginia Guard State Tuition Assistance Program • Program benefits • $6,000 maximum benefit for tuition and fees per fiscal year • Maximum of $2,000 per semester • Receive up to $350 per semester for books • How to qualify • Complete Basic Training and Initial Active Duty Training • Be in active drilling status • Have enough time remaining on service obligation to complete the course

19. Montgomery GI Bill-Selected Reserve • Total money $11,124 • $309.00 month for 36 months (full-time) • Useable up PhD level degree • To Qualify • Enlist in Army National Guard • Have a six year obligation • Have high school diploma or equivalent • Complete Initial Active Duty for Training (both basic and AIT)

20. Montgomery GI Bill-Kicker • Total money up to $12,000 • $200.00 month for 36 months (full-time) • Increases to $350.00 for ROTC SMP • Payments continue as long as you have MGIB-SR benefits • To Qualify • Enlist in Army National Guard • Have a six year obligation • Enlist and remain in a qualifying specialty/unit in a valid vacancy position • Must be eligible for basic MGIB-SR benefits

21. Student Loan Repayment Program • Program benefit • $20,000 for existing student loans at the time of enlistment/reenlistment • How to qualify • Enlist for at least three years in Army National Guard unit • Score 50 or higher on the ASVAB • Be in a valid position vacancy in an Army National Guard unit
