  3. Background • UCAR Space Implementation Committee (USIC) report suggests centralized computing facilities are cost-effective means to meet programmatic requirements. • Informational Technology Council (ITC) creates Computer Room Management Committee to define standards.

  4. CRMC Vision • The central computer room standards committee will asess the short- and long-term needs for computing facilities at UCAR and recommend the technical standards, management protocols, and centralized facilities plans to address those needs. • Recommendations will be presented to ITC, USIC, and President’s Council.

  6. Assessment Process • Audit equipment and infrastructure. • Interview representatives from each division and program.

  7. Audit Process • CRMC develops and distributes standardized audit forms and instructions to each group. • Divisions/Programs conduct the audit process • Computer equipment • Infrastructure

  8. Interview Process • CRMC will schedule Division/Program interviews to clarify the following needs and requirements. • Short- and long-term growth projections • Contractual requirements • Security requirements • Storage requirements • Work space

  9. 7/6 – 7/23 7/26 – 8/20 9/3 9/22 – 9/29 10/5 Divisions/programs conduct audit. CRMC conducts interviews. Summary of assessment process distributed to CRMC. Draft of CRMC report sent to divisions/programs for review and comment. Report distributed to ITC. Timeline

  10. Conclusion • Accurate inventory of existing computer room infrastructure and equipment will facilitate planning for centralized computer rooms. • Knowledge of anticipated short- and long-term plans for computational resources is important for informed space planning.
