    1. 2010 - 2011 Budget Presentation

To assure that all students are equipped with the essential skills necessary to acquire knowledge and understanding; to instill the desire to question and look for truth so that students may become critical thinkers and life-long learners; and, to assure that all students practice self-discipline, perseverance, fairness and judicious decision making. It is the expectation of this school district that all pupils achieve the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards at all grade levels. Our Mission

    3. State Aid 2010-2011

    4. Dependable, annual community support during budget votes. Extraordinary parental involvement in Point Pleasant Schools educational initiatives. Sustained community support maintains the quality of our educational programming.

    8. 2009 High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) 97.6% of juniors score proficient or advanced proficient in language arts. 83.8% of juniors score proficient and advanced proficient in math. 96% of AP students who took Advanced Placement exams, 80% students score a 3 or higher. Point Pleasant High School Achievement

    10. 2009 New Jersey ASK Testing 94.2% of eighth grade students are proficient in math - 58% scoring advanced proficient. 96% of eighth grade students are proficient or advanced proficient in language arts. 91% of seventh grade students are proficient or advanced proficient in both Math and Language Arts 89.2% of sixth graders are proficient or advanced proficient in math. Memorial Middle School Achievement

    11. 2009 New Jersey ASK Testing 96.2% of District third graders scored proficient and advanced proficient in math. 87.3% of third graders are proficient or advanced proficient in language arts District Fourth graders scored 89.2% proficient and advanced proficient in math and 96.8% proficient in science, with the highest percentage in advanced proficiency 92.9% of fifth graders are proficient or better in math. 7 percent higher than 2008 scores.

    13. Utilize existing staff members to develop workshops and train colleagues Repeat the Panther Academy, a professional development program that enables faculty to chose classes in specific areas to supplement instruction initiatives and further the development of outstanding educators

Addition of English III and English IV Honors courses at Point Pleasant High School Expansion of the Italian Language Program Free access to the PSAT test for all Sophomores and Juniors at PPHS Continued partnership with College Board to provide students with online access to test preparation and enrichment opportunities An SAT task force implemented to target SAT performance via instructional council at High School

    15. 2009-10 Improvement Initiatives Continued Point Pleasant Schools enhanced current technology offerings; the installation of LCD projectors in targeted classrooms Supplemental language arts material in grades K-5 to target NJASK assessment have been implemented Core Curriculum Content Standards revision in progress. Autism Program successfully implemented at Memorial Middle School

    16. A Parent-Student Information Portal has been established through the district website Parents of high school students now have online access to grades, attendance, interim reports through Star Gradebook. Vision for Fall 2010: District Wide Online Gradebook Integration

    17. Renovation of the High School track Acquisition of Band Equipment District-wide New Fire Alarm System at Nellie Bennett School Upgraded Gym Lockers at the middle and high schools Continuation of Asbestos Abatement Project

    18. Faculty and Staff proactively pursue corporate, federal and state grants. Staff members encouraged to seek program funding through grants. Workshops in Grant Writing have been made available to all staff A grant database utilizing Wiki technology has been established to simplify the search for available grants.

    19. $2,974 from the Italian American Committee on Education $3,500 from the Target Corporation to fund curriculum based field trips $750 ExxonMobil educational Alliance Program Grant to Fund Middle School Technology Projects $25,000 from the Ocean First Foundation to fund Memorial Middle School Library improvements $10,000 from the Ocean First Foundation to an International Educational Initiative at Nellie Bennett Elementary School

    20. $4,800 from the Lowes Toolbox for Education to fund an outdoor classroom at Nellie Bennett $1,971 from the New Jersey Association for Educational Technology to upgrade Ocean Roads technology programs $700 from the Barnegat Bay Estuary Grant Program to fund and ecological educational outreach program $1,646 to fund the district-wide Summer Reading Program $850 from New Jersey Natural Gas to encourage energy efficient practices

    21. The Pursuit of Non-Traditional Revenues Board of Education has encouraged local businesses to place their advertising messages in sporting venues throughout the district. Commitments from local advertisers result in additional revenue.

Continued compliance with new State efficiency standards Major purchases from county and statewide cooperatives Efficient purchasing policies that require pursuing lowest prices Commitment from the administration and staff to carefully manage all district spending Freeze contracts with Aramark for Custodial Maintenance and Grounds Freeze cost on privately contracted bus runs Cost Saving Measures

    29. Regional Administrative Cost Limit $1,747 Point Pleasant Administrative Cost $1,197 The districts administrative costs are $1.67 million under the regional cap.

    30. States Recommended Spending for Meeting Curriculum Requirements $34,555,850 Point Pleasants Proposed Spending $32,437,143 The Point Pleasant School District is $2,118,707 under what the State says is needed to adequately achieve New Jerseys Core Curriculum Requirements.
