  2. STUDENT ACTIVITY • Alice Robinson currently in Melbourne working with Andrew Hamilton; return to UCI in March • Good progress in gathering data and other information on treatment lagoons (10+) in the Goulburn Valley district • Data collection and field sampling for GHG emission from lagoons is planned for the next 1.5 months. One of the tasks is the definition of the sampling campaign (number and location of samples) • After returning to UCI, Alice will continue her field work and complement it with the modeling tools we have available. These include models for carbon and energy footprint analysis and will be expanded and complemented with other components (e.g., change in land use, habitat restoration value, etc.) traditionally part of life-cycle assessment • We will not perform a full-featured LCA because the larger is the boundary of the analysis, the more uncertain the results are • One of alice's tasks in her research is to fully define the model boundary

  3. FACULTY ACTIVITIES • Trip to Melbourne by D. Rosso tentatively scheduled for late february; trip includes visit to sites with A. Robinson and A. Mehring, meetings/site visits with A. Hamilton, field sampling for GHG • Our UCI GC for N2O measurements is available and gas or liquid samples may be brought/shipped to UCI if needed. The N2O analyzer proposed for purchase (Picarro?) will be used in Australia? • In addition to the trip to Australia, two treatment lagoons already identified in the US (one in Central California, one in Delaware); visits planned in the spring to collect data and samples
