  2. There are manydifferent types of government across our world.

  3. Limited Governments:type of government in which the powers of theleaders are limited.

  4. This means that all laws apply to everyone, eventhe leadersof the country.

  5. EX: United States

  6. Unlimited Government:a type of government in which the leaders have almost absolute power.

  7. This means that the leaders do not have to follow the laws that they set up for their people.

  8. EX: Dictator such as Saddam Hussain

  9. Monarchy:form of government in which ruling power is in the hands of one person

  10. Etymology: Monos (single) and arkein (rule)

  11. Monarchy Example--Saudi Arabia

  12. Oligarchy:form of government in which ruling power is in the hands of a few people

  13. Etymology: Oligos (few) and arkein (rule)

  14. Tyranny:government in which ruling power is in the hands of a person who has seized control

  15. A tyrant gathers support by making promises to the poor and uneducated.

  16. Etymology: tyrannos (usurper with supreme power)

  17. (Direct) Democracy: power is in the hands of the people

  18. The city of Athens, Greece was the birth place of democracy.

  19. All male citizens could participate in the Athenian government.

  20. Etymology: Demos (people) and kratos (power)

  21. Republic(a type of democracy):nation or state in which the citizens elect representatives to manage the government, which is usually headed by a president rather than a monarch.

  23. Republic example: United States

  24. Theocracy: government in which God, or a god, is recognized as the supreme ruler.

  33. Some people have considered Communism the greatest threat to world peace.

  34. Others, as the world's greatest hope.

  36. Fascism:government is headed, in most cases, by a dictator.

  37. It involves total government control of political, economic, cultural, religious, and social activities.

  38. Ex. Adolf Hitler

  39. Fascism resembles Communism.

  40. Between 1936 and 1945 Germany and Italy were under fascist rule.

  42. Dictatorship: whose leader has complete control over a country’s government.

  43. Ex: Fidel Castro of Cuba

  44. Socialism:economic and government system in which some businesses and industries are owned collectively or by the government. China

  48. These are paid for by high taxes collected from the citizens.

  50. Marxism:system of socialismdeveloped by Karl Marx in which there is public ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of goods.
