My Experience • School Social Worker for 6 years. • 3 years teaching experience within division • 1 year teaching experience at Community College • President of Virginia Visiting Teacher/School Social Worker Association for the Roanoke Region – 4 years • Planned and implemented the Response to Intervention process within the Division • Coordinated the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program in Grades 6-8. • Coordinated and implemented the Student Assistance Program within Franklin County Public Schools • Experience in juvenile and domestic laws, as well as special education regulations.

Personality and Community Relationships • Born and raised in Franklin County with many connections and investments in the community • Have worked for Juvenile Court Services Unit for seven years, with continued professional relationships with court personnel • Have worked part-time for 13 years as a custody investigator for the Franklin County department of Social Services. • Currently a member of the Child Abuse Review Team, the Family Action and Planning Team and the Truancy Multidisciplinary Team

  5. My VISION “To ensure that adequate resources available within the school division that encompasses all barriers to student learning. These barriers may include family support, clinical mental health services, medical assistance, parent education and research based prevention programs. Before we will ever see that NO CHILD IS LEFT BEHIND, we must make sure that we are adequately addressing areas that are holding children back form their full potential.”

My Vision - details • Medicaid Billing for Mental Health Support Staff such as School Social Workers and School Psychologists to generate revenue to support positions (standard 6). • Self-supported clinical positions focusing on mental health issues for special education children – to include individual and group therapy (supported by Medicaid) • Consistent and concise job descriptions and standards and ethics for guidance personnel, school social workers, school psychologist and nurses (standard 5) • Development of policies for child abuse complaint procedures, crisis intervention, confidentiality and mental health services. • Implementation of early intervention and screening services for at-risk students at the elementary level. • Implementation of research based prevention programs K-12.

  7. As the Coordinator for Pupil Personnel Services, I will promote the success of all students by: • reducing barriers such as race, socioeconomic status, parental involvement by supporting and implementing prevention and intervention programs accessible by everyone. (standard 1) • advocating for students and their families, promoting safe and nurturing school climates and ensuring staff development in the areas of environmental factors that ultimately affect student learning (standard 2). • promoting collaboration with families and community members, responding to diverse community interest and needs, and educating and mobilizing community resources (standard 4). • acting and promoting integrity, fairness and ethics with all support personnel (standard 5). • influencing political, community and social contexts to advocate for school needs (standard 6)
