Difficulties Facing our Industry • Fierce manpower competition at all levels of an organization. • Identifying, recruiting and developing top talent has never been more • complex. • Retirement of our “Baby Boomers” are looming. Pew Research Center • projects by 2030, 18 percent of America will be 65 or older. • Over the 2010-20 decade, 54.8 million total job openings are expected. • While growth will lead to many openings, more than half – 61.6 percent – • will come from the need to replace workers who retire or otherwise • permanently leave an occupation.

  3. Vision A Solution for the Industry The PMA Foundation for Industry Talent was established in 2006 as a charitable organization, recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 organization. Help to sustain a vibrant global produce industry through its most valuable resource…people. Mission To attract, develop and retain talent for the global produce industry.

Strategies for Growing our Industry’s Talent • Attract • Focus on reaching out to universities to showcase the produce industry as a career choice. • Expand our outreach to a larger audience to address the challenges and opportunities that • lay ahead for companies to employ at all levels. • Develop • Focus on the various stages of development through one’s entire career in the industry. • Expand our opportunities to provide individuals with appropriate challenges and • responsibilities as they progress within the organization. • Retain • Focus on helping companies with “best people practices”. • Expand our ability to support the continuous development and retention of an • organization’s leaders, managers and individual contributors so as to provide a long-term • competitive advantage. • Research shows… • that the successful development of people is a key factor in retaining top talent.

Attract. • The Career Pathways Programs showcase the diverse career options available in • produce by bringing college students to industry events to participate in customized • workshops, networking opportunities and one-on-one mentoring from a Career • Ambassador. • Held in Conjunction with: CPMA, NEPC, FFVA, FPFC, PMA’s Fresh Summit and Foodservice Conference • Career Ambassador Network gives industry members opportunities to share their • passion and knowledge for the fresh produce industry to students and faculty across • the country. This program gives businesses a direct connection to new talent. • Career Pathways Student Mentor: A volunteer network of passionate industry professionals who serve as mentors to university students at industry events that feature our Career Pathways programs. • University Outreach & Awareness: Volunteers who share information with students and faculty about the benefits and rewards of a career in the fresh produce industry by visiting Universities classrooms and career fair.

Attract. • Career Bank creates a forum for companies to communicate their internship, • entry and intermediate-level job openings to a diverse group of job seekers • specifically knowledgeable in or interested in the fresh produce business. • (producejobsource.com) • Internships are a crucial tool in determining whether a career path, • company/individual or even an industry is the right fit. Our internship program • connects companies and college students. Company profiles and job • opportunities can be posted on our web site.

Retain. • The Emerging Leaders Program, conducted in conjunction with the Thunderbird School of Global Management, prepares the next generation of leaders through both on-campus and virtual learning. • The Young Professionals Webinar Series addresses areas and issues affecting our industryas well as general business practices and human resource topics to help young professionals reach their career development goals. • The Young Professionals Reception, held at Fresh Summit, provides an opportunity for attendees to grow a strong peer and professional network of colleagues.

  9. Develop. Retain. • Women’s Fresh Perspectives programs/events are the catalyst for a vibrant global produce industry through the leadership, development and participation of women. The various programs and events are intended to cultivate women’s potential. • Reception at PMA’s Foodservice Conference • Leadership Breakfast at PMA’s Fresh Summit • Conference in partnership with Simmons School of Management • The Leadership Symposium gives senior executives the skills to enhance their leadership impact and address today’s strategic business challenges.

Scholarship Opportunities for Young Professionals Tip Murphy Scholarship for Leadership Excellence Applications due November 7, 2012 • The Tip Murphy Scholarship for Leadership Excellence was created in 2008 to honor the life and career of Tip Murphy, a beloved 15 year veteran of the produce industry. It covers the cost of registration and associated hotel expenses for one of a growing number of PMA and PMA Foundation programs & events; including the Emerging Leaders Program. Joe Stubbs Scholarship for Foodservice Applications due March 29, 2013 • The Joe Stubbs Scholarship provides an opportunity for a young professional to attend PMA’s Foodservice Conference and Expo in honor of Joe Stubbs. The scholarship is funded by generous contributions from the Produce Marketing Association and includes registration and hotel expenses.
