  1. Load Model Modifications ProjectProgress ReportWECC LMTF MeetingMarch19, 2014 Bill Price Consultant

  2. Project Tasks • CMPLDW tap change – avoid matrix refactorization by using current injections – DONE – in PSLF V18.1_03. • CMPLDW initial far-end bus voltage – if < 0.95, increase by changing taps (instead of reducing R & X) – DONE – PSLF V18.1_03. (Proposed alternative - Make Vmin a parameter and block model if V< Vmin) • Transformer saturation – consider adding to CMPLDW • MOTORC – add protective functions from LD1PAC – DONE – PSLF V 18.1_03 beta • CMPLDW – Add MOTORC model • Related non-project tasks • CMPLDW – Add PV model from CMPLDWG (eliminate CMPLDWG) • CMPLDW – full/partial load tripping without refactorizing matrix • CMPLDW – simplify data input

  3. Transformer Saturation Magnetization characteristic of laminated steel (curve 1) Source: wikipedia/C.P. Steinmetz

  4. Transformer Saturation Initial modeling assumptions Nominal voltage point at 1.4 Tesla on curve 1. Use generator saturation model with “air gap” line replaced by a line through (0.,0.) and V = 0.8 p.u. Saturation factors are then about: S1 = 1. S12 = 10 Imag/Bmag at nominal voltage is about 0.01 p.u. (based on values for step-down transformers in WECC base case) Stand-alone LTC model (LTC1) was modified to include saturation Imag/Bmag at nominal voltage input in power flow data Additional magnetizing current due to saturation added as current injection at secondary bus.

  5. Transformer Saturation Saturation Curve as modeled

  6. Transformer Saturation Impact of saturation on voltage following load trip (BLUE – with saturation; RED – without saturation) ] 0.006 p.u.

  7. MOTORC Changes Added protective functions from LD1PAC Tested for correct operation Updated PSLF manual page (including motor equations)

  8. CMPLDW Data Simplification PSLF Data Management (DM) Models _cmp_disteq – distribution equivalent _cmp_ldstat – static load model _cmp_ldelec – electronic load model _cmp_motor3 – 3-phase induction motor _cmp_ld1pac – single-phase A/C performance model _cmp_motorc – single-phase A/C phasor model _cmp_DGpv – PV distributed generation model Initial underscore indicates it is a DM model. Data input once for a particular set of parameter values, e.g. _cmp_ldstat 20 : "Pfs" 1 "P1e" 2 "P1c" 0 "P2e" 1 "P2c" 1 "Pfreq" 0 / "Q1e" 2 "Q1c" 1 "Q2e" 1 "Q2c" 0 "Qfreq" -1 Data ID number (e.g. 20) is used to reference this data in CMPLDW data Data can be viewed and edited in Model Edit (edmd) table and Model Record Editor Changes will affect all models using this data.

  9. CMPLDW Data Simplification Data input example: cmpldw2 12345 "BUS XX" 138 "99" : #1 mva=-1 / "moddist" 1 / "modstatic" 20 / “Felec” 0.2 “modelec” 560 / "Fma" 0.2 "MtypeA" 3 "modmotA" 310/ "FmB" 0.25 "MtypeB" 3 "modmotB" 350/ "FmC" 0.3 "MtypeC" 1 "modmotC" 110 / "FmD" 0.0 "MtypeD" 0 "modmotD" 0 / "DGtype" 1 "modDG" 500 "pflag" 0 "Pgen" 0.1 "PF" 1. CMPLDW2– name change due to different data input method CMPLDW still available for backward compatibility
