  2. Where I’ve Gone – So Far • 2010-2011: Blended learning model in 7th grade Algebra class with 1:1 laptops • 2011-2012: Project-based learning in 7/8 STEM class with 1:1 laptops

  3. Typical Day in Blended Math Class • Students come in and check their day’s assignment on the projector • Depending on their progress up to that point, students are assigned to an instructional modality • Assignments for the day are fluid depending on student needs

  4. Stacy’s Day in Mr. McCrea’s Class • Stacy starts out the class assigned to a laptop and picks up where she left off yesterday • Noticing her prior lack of progress on a topic, I move her to a small-group instructional setting • After the small group work, Mr. McCrea pairs Stacy up with a peer tutor and some manipulatives to help her • Mr. McCrea continues to monitor Stacy • Later on, she may work on an in-depth real-world project applying those skills

  5. Typical Day in 1:1 STEM Class • Project-driven class based primarily on student interests • Projects are written with student academic levels in mind and are mainly taken from other sources • Powered by a Learning Management System (LMS) like Moodle or Edmodo • Frequent teacher-student(s) conferences to gauge progress and provide assistance

  6. Examples of Projects • Design a new school locker that is an improvement on the one you’ve already got (Discoverdesign.org) • Design a Moon Base that can be built with technology we’ll have in the next 5 years (NASA) • Build a water rocket that can stay in the air for more than 30 seconds • Create an app for an Android phone that at least 5 people in class would use
