  1. How to Clear Out the Church House in One Easy Sermon Hosea 9:1-17

  2. Scripture Reading • Hosea 9:7 (NIV) 7 The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired man a maniac.

  3. Point #1 • Hosea cleared out the church because he told the people that sometimes you got to get out of the party atmosphere and get serious with God. • Hosea 9:1 (NIV) 1 Do not rejoice, O Israel; do not be jubilant like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful to your God; you love the wages of a prostitute at every threshing floor.

Point # 2 • Hosea cleared out the church house because he told the people the truth that things are bad right now and expect them to get worse from here. • Hosea 9:2-3 (NIV) 2 Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people; the new wine will fail them. 3 They will not remain in the LORD's land; Ephraim will return to Egypt and eat unclean food in Assyria.

Point # 3 • Hosea cleared out the church house because he told the people that church did nothing for them because they were not going to open their hearts and allow God to transform them. • Hosea 9:5 (NIV) 5 What will you do on the day of your appointed feasts, on the festival days of the LORD? • Hosea 9:10 (NIV) 10 "When I found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the desert; when I saw your fathers, it was like seeing the early fruit on the fig tree. But when they came to Baal Peor, they consecrated themselves to that shameful idol and became as vile as the thing they loved.

  6. Point # 4 • Hosea cleared out the church house because his prayer was probably the only one that reached God’s ears that day and it wasn’t a make you feel good prayer. • Hosea 9:14 (NIV) 14 Give them, O LORD-- what will you give them? Give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that are dry.

  7. Conclusion • Do you ever get serious with God? • How well do you accept the truth? • Is your heart open so that God can transform it? • How genuine are your prayers you offer to God?
