  3. Risk in agriculture • Broad classification • Regulatory risks: changes in regulations and • policies, political risks • Price risks: market risks, price fluctuations; • support prices, futures markets • Production risks: environmental and climatic • risks

Mitigating production risks • Ex ante strategies: minimizing risk exposure • Knowledge dissemination – agricultural extension services, pest management, cropping patterns, changes in seeds, adaptation to climate change • Ex post strategies: coping with shocks • Disaster assistance, migration, labor re-allocation
