ELEMENTS OF THE SYSTEMRatings, Metrics, Observations • Multiple ratings • Highly Effective, Effective, Developing/Needs Improvement, and Unsatisfactory • Descriptive language for each rating • Multi-metric • 50% principal input (school year 2011-2012) • 50% student growth (3 year period of data beginning 2011-12 as the first year) • In 2012-13 a new metric will be added • Multiple observations • New teachers, experienced teachers and struggling teachers

  5. TEACHER CATEGORIES AND OBSERVATION SCHEDULE

ELEMENTS OF THE SYSTEMWeights and Points • Each domain is weighted to equal a total of 100 percent. • Domain 1: Planning and Preparation 20% • Domain 2: The Classroom Environment 20% • Domain 3: Instruction 40% • Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities 20% • Each component within a domain has four ratings with an assigned point value • Highly Effective: 5 points • Effective: 3 points • Developing/Needs Improvement 1 point • Unsatisfactory 0 • Each component is weighted and carries a value.

  8. ELEMENTS OF THE SYSTEMSCORING PART I: POINT RANGE SUMMATIVE EVALUATION: 0-100 PART II STUDENT GROWTH: 0-100 FINAL EVALUATION POINTS: 0-200 TEACHER WILL KNOW SUMMATIVE EVALUATION SCORE IN APRIL. TEACHER WILL KNOW STUDENT GROWTH SCORE AND TOTAL EVALUATION SCORE IN THE LATE SUMMER/FALL. STUDENT SCORES MAY SERVE TO INCREASE OR LOWER THE TOTAL EVALUATION SCORE

Pre and Post Conferences • Formal observations include a pre and post conference • Informal observations include a post-conference • Conferences are conversations about instruction and practice. • Teachers must be ready to answer specific questions about the lesson and instruction (see pre and post observation conference forms) • Teachers may need to supply artifacts if necessary. • Principals and Assistant Principals must use the approved pre and post observation conference forms for each formal observation • The administrator will conduct a post conference with written feedback to the teacher for each formal and informal observation
