Week 10 (Second Quarter)October 28, 2013 I can… Apply active Reading strategies to novel Identify Infinitives in text Generate Sentences including the writing tool: infinitives Discern between infinitives and gerunds Write an essay using Writing Tools throughout the body paragraphs Identify explicit text support to prove character traits Generate an assertion/thesis statement in response to a prompt Use ‘incorporation’ accurately to create a relevant assertion/thesis statement Apply the 5 Minute Study Strategy independently to prepare for vocabulary quiz

Write your personal goal on the left side of your assignment notebook. BE SPECIFIC!

  4. Week of Vocabulary • Monday – Unit 4, flashcards 1-5 in class. HW: 5 Minute Study Strategy • Tuesday – Unit 4, flashcards 6-10 in class, activity (TBA) HW: 5 MS Strategy • Wednesday – Write 6 Sentences, one vocab word in a sentence, 3 sentences gerunds, 3 sentences infinitives • Thursday – Word Maps words 1-8 • Friday – Spelling Pre-test word 1-10 (classwork grade) HOMEWORK: The 5 Minute Study Strategy must be done EVERY night .

Week of Reading • Monday – Comprehension: Skills application – passage #1 • Tuesday – Comprehension: Skills application – passage #2 • Wednesday – Pre-Reading Activities to class novel: The Cay, by Theodore Taylor- KWL Charts, videos, team & class discussion • Thursday – Review Expectations/Procedures of class novel. Distribute journaling packets. Read Aloud Chapter 1, Complete Journal entry #1 • Friday – Read Aloud: Chapter 2 – Complete Journal Entry #2 HOMEWORK: Read from independent novel EVERY night! First AR test is due November 19th

  6. Week of Writing • Monday – Funnel it Intro (It will really happen this time ), Quarterly Skills Summaries: Collect Success Strategies, distribute Active Reading, Writing Tools, PowerWriting • Tuesday – Timed essay: In class, persuasive, apply writing standards • Wednesday – Activity: Writing to a Prompt – Model, independent practice • Thursday – Lesson: Using Incorporation to generate a thesis/assertion – Model, independent practice • Friday – Lesson: Types of intros, Model, Understanding check up incorporation ----> assertion/thesis, and guided creation of model introduction HOMEWORK: Work on Quarterly Summaries EVERY NIGHT!!! Quarterly summaries are all due by FRIDAY.
