  3. What Environmental Factors Cause Unhealthy TDS Levels • Humans increase TDS levels in waterways • Runoff from urban areas like salt, fertilizers, and many other materials • Wastewater treatment plants may dump the dissolved organic material and add nitrogen and phosphorus

  4. What TDS Levels are Considered Healthy? • Your drinking water has about 500 mg/L TDS so that is a healthy TDS level • Rain water has a low TDS level of about 10 or below • Rivers Typically have TDS levels of 100 to 2000 mg/L
