  2. CAP Info • New CAP from KDE regarding Alternate Assessment Eligibility • Mild Mental Disability area of focus. • Many documentation issues.

CAP Info - IEPs • IEPs for Alternate Assessment students should include a lot of detailed information in present levels. • What the student can and cannot do, what supports they need to be able to do those things, etc. • Should include a lot of information about adaptive behaviors, not just misbehavior and/or vocational skills.

  4. CAP Info - IEPs • For a student to be eligible for alternate assessment, there should be a lot of information about adaptive deficits, including goals and objectives. • SDI should also reflect intensive instruction beyond what can be reasonably provided in a general education/resource setting.

  5. CAP – Adaptive Behavior • “Effectiveness or degree with which individuals meet the standards of personal independence and social responsibility expected for age and cultural groups.”

  6. CAP Info – Adaptive Behavior • Communication Skills • Community Use • Self-Direction • Health and Safety • Functional Academics • Self-Care • Home Living • Social Skills • Leisure • Work Skills

  7. CAP Info – IEPs • Communication Status • Should have information about the student’s communication abilities compared to same age peers. Student may not receive speech therapy, but likely does not have commensurate communication. • Include statement indicating that the student is not eligible for speech language therapy, but supports and instruction are embedded within the current class setting.

  8. CAP Info - IEPs • Post Secondary Transition Goals • Eligible students should have goals that can be met with an Alternative Diploma. • Eligible students should be in need of Independent Living Supports.

  9. IEP Review • Look at the 2 Present Levels – which one is a special class student?

  10. CAP Info • Phase 1 – Correct specific student errors listed in the CAP • Phase 2 – Clean up other students in the MMD special classes
