  2. ‘I enjoyed being on my own occasionally to do whatever I pleased, to eat what I wanted when I feel like it.’ (page 137) • He is usually controlled by Luo, as he acts like his master, like telling him not to eat certain food. Therefore, when he gets to be by himself he like the feeling of freedom, but he only likes it occasionally because he also enjoys being friends with Luo.

  3. ‘While I’m away, would you guard the Little Seamstress for me?’ (Page 137) • This quote shows that he is very possessive and selfish, as he doesn’t want other people to take his seamstress away and doesn’t want to share. This also shows that he likes the Seamstress very much and cares about her.

  4. ‘You mustn’t forget,’ he admonished, ‘that she’s the Number One beauty on the Phoenix of the sky.’(Page 137) • Luo trusts the narrator to protect the Little Seamstress, to Luo, LCS is a very important person in his life. Being the number one beauty, many males would want to be with her. • However, before in part one, Luo mentioned that she is not civilised for him, and now it is clear he really likes her. This shows: • He was lying before to the narrator, he didnt want the narrator to know he likes an uncivilised woman. • He thought she was uncivilised before, but really liked her after.

  5. ‘How blindly Luo trusted me! Asking this of me at the last minute was like giving me a priceless treasure for safekeeping, without even entering his head that I might make off with it myself.’(Page 138) • As the narrator is also very fond of LCS, he could easily steal her away from him, which Luo never thought of. This shows that Luo really trust the narrator and thinks of him as a proper friend.

  6. ‘My look was steetly and my pace brisk, as befitting a secret agent with a mission.’ (Page 138) • As he was hiding and spying on her than talking to her, this shows he didn’t betray Luo and helped/obeyed him, guarding the seamstress.

  7. In page 139, the narrator described the scene using a metaphor. He described the seamstress as a raven, and himself as a secret agent. Some reasons he may not want to be direct is: • He feels guilty. • Guard the seamstress seems like an adventure, so he describes the situation more adventurously.

  8. ‘Reading aloud whole pages struck me as pretty boring, so I decide to take a different approach.’ (Page 139) • He cares how the seamstress feels about him reading. He took a different approach so he could interest her more and hope she doesn’t find him boring.

  9. ‘I would ask her what she thought would happen next....adding bits here and there by way of a personal touch to make the story more interesting to her.’ (page 139-140) • He reads to her like a mother reads to her child. He tries to include her as much as possible, at the same time he tries to connect and communicate with her.

  10. ‘...he would have to leave again after two to three days,’ (page 140) • The tailor is very busy, he doesn’t have much time to be with the seamstress.

  11. ‘Never had a secret agent carried out his mission with more dedication.’ (page 140) • The narrator puts in time and effort in taking care of the seamstress, including taking care of her, entertaining her, etc. The reasons of this is because • He likes the seamstress • She is his best friend’s girlfriend • Luo told him to
